Today, let’s examine a part of Christmas that always sparks joy. Have you ever seen the look in a child’s eyes when you drive them through a neighborhood fully decked out with lights? Or an adult’s, for that matter! Year after year, the light spectaculars seem to get more and more, well, spectacular! Our family loved Disneyland at Christmas time (evidenced by the fact we went ten years in a row). Why? The effect the lights had on the atmosphere was magical! “It’s a Small World” during the holiday season is underwhelming at any other time of year.
Our eyes are specifically designed to capture light, but so are our hearts. In fact, everything before the nativity (B.C.) was described as “darkness" for God's people. Not a literal darkness, but a spiritual one. The birth of Jesus on that first Christmas night was prophesied this way:
